Sue Murphy has 40 years of experience working with dogs. As a young adult, she was employed by a Veterinary Hospital. She then moved on to own and manage her own boarding and grooming kennel in Westbrook, “The Kennel Club”, for eight years. She raised, bred, and exhibited Irish Wolfhounds for 25 years and is still active in Breed Clubs. When her children were young, she groomed pets from home. When her children were grown, she was pleasantly surprised when she reopened the business as a grooming and boarding establishment to have many loyal clients return to The Pampered Pet years later.

Sue has resided at 400 Cape Road for 40+ years. The Pampered Pet is operated within her ten-room home. Several rooms are utilized for overnight stays of canine guests who have proper etiquette. For those guests who may be improving their etiquette, the home also holds a daylight basement with a 10 x 7.5 ft. chain link enclosure on thick wood flooring and carpeting with plenty of sunshine. This enclosure is often used for the overly energetic, teething and not fully house-broken guests. She and her two female four-legged children, who are Cairn terriers, have been known to share her bed with a few of her overly homesick canine guests.

Sue takes limited reservations for canine guests to enable the optimal amount of time and attention spent with each guest. For safety reasons, each family’s dogs are separate from other family’s dogs. There are at least four exercise periods and more if needed. The home is encircled by approximately one half an acre of fenced in yard for the dogs to enjoy. The property lies on 5 acres, which allows for privacy and peacefulness. If the dogs prove on a retractable leash that they are willing to come when called, they are able to play off lead. Sue also has developed a rubber arm, which allows her to throw toys quite a distance for her guests. Sometimes the dog retrieves them and sometimes she can be found retrieving them!

Sue is very grateful for her success in doing the work she loves! She values the trust that is given by each owner in the care of the four-legged canine family members. She is humbled and thankful for the gratitude expressed for the quality of the care given to each guest of The Pampered Pet. Upon request, Sue would be happy to provide additional references.
